The Beginning

I started "Mailbox Hugs" as a 40th birthday present to myself.  I remember the excitement I used to feel as a kid when I got something in the mail.  What a shame that people don't send cards and letters in the mail anymore, especially when as an adult the mailbox just means junk and bills.  Sure, I was wished a happy birthday by my friends on Facebook, but this was a milestone birthday and my husband was out of town on business.

I was feeling sorry for myself.

Then I checked the mailbox and there it was...a birthday card for me!  It had a handwritten sentiment from my husband's boss wishing me a happy birthday and apologizing that my husband was unable to be with me on my big day.
I hadn't just gotten a card, I felt like I had received a hug in my mailbox!  It made me want to send other people "hugs" in their mailboxes.

This is my first official Mailbox Hug.  I sent it to my sister-in-law because her basement had flooded and she was feeling a bit down.  The inside sentiment reads "Wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all better.".
